Why keycaps matter more than switches
Most people upgrade switches first because the marketing focuses on switches. But keycaps change two things switches don't:
- Sound profile: Thicker keycaps = deeper, fuller sound. Thinner keycaps = brighter, more 'plasticky.' MT3 (1.6mm) is noticeably deeper than Cherry (1.4mm). Stock Akko ABS (1.2mm) is shallow and clacky.
- Visual identity: A black-pink-cream Olivia set on a black aluminum board looks completely different from the same board with cream-only KAT Milkshake. Keycaps define the look.
Switches are about feel; keycaps are about sound and look.
