Software Engineer & Keyboard Builder

Software engineer by day, keyboard builder by night. Five years deep in the rabbit hole — gasket-mount aluminum boards, lubed Boba U4Ts, MT3 keycaps, the whole pipeline. Every keyboard on ClackPicks gets evaluated against actual daily-driver typing and gaming, not just spec-sheet bullet points.

Why this site exists

The mechanical keyboard internet is full of review sites that recommend whatever pays the highest affiliate rate, and YouTube reviews that hit "best 75% in 2026" before the keyboard has even shipped to retail. Meanwhile, the actual community signal — what people who lubed 200 switches think — is buried under subreddit threads and Discord servers.

ClackPicks started as a spreadsheet I kept while building boards in my apartment: layout, mount style, stock switch, modded switch, sound profile, what I actually kept on my desk after 30 days. Eventually it became something worth publishing.

How we evaluate keyboards

Every recommendation on this site comes from:

  • Real typing tests — Every keyboard I recommend has been on my desk for at least a month of daily-driver typing and gaming. Stock and modded sound profiles are recorded so you can hear the difference, not just read about it.
  • Community sentiment analysis — Mechanical keyboard owner forums and modding communities. I read and aggregate community feedback over months, not days, and cite specific threads so you can verify the source.
  • Sound and feel reference — Cross-referenced with sound tests from Theremin Goat, Hipyo Tech, TaeKeyboards, Alexotos, and other long-running channels who actually own and use the gear.
  • Amazon verified purchase reviews — For long-term reliability and quality-control signals, especially for budget hot-swap boards where variance between units matters.

Affiliate disclosure

ClackPicks participates in the Amazon Associates program. When you purchase through links on this site, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This is how the site stays funded and free of display ads.

Affiliate relationships do not influence recommendations. Every keyboard, switch, and accessory I recommend is something I have personally typed on. I do not accept review samples in exchange for positive coverage.

Content update policy

Every product page has a "Last updated" date. Content is revisited when a new firmware revision, successor model, significant price drop, or new measurement / sound test materially affects the recommendation. Reviews don't silently go stale.
